History through Art Fifth Grade Projects

We are going to make a presentation and a video with the information we gather on each artist, where they lived, who they worked for, and the political situation they had to live through.


Here are the questions to help as a guide. Each student may have more ideas to add.

The history of Spain as told through paintings,
sculptures and historical buildings.


Learn all you can about the artist. Below are some questions to give you ideas.
  1. *Who is the artist? (Where was he or she from? What was his or her family life like?)
    1. What did the artist do with the money?
    2. Why did the artist become an artist?
    3. Why did the investor choose the artist?
    4. Where did the artist learn his craft?
Choose your favorite piece of work from the artist. Tell us about the work.
  1. *What is the subject?
  2. *Who commissioned the work? (Who paid for it?)
  3. *When was it made?
  4. *How is it made?
    1. With what materials is it made?
  5. *Why was it made?
    1. What was the artist’s inspiration?
  6. *Where was it made, where did it go and where is it now?


  1. *How does this work make you feel?
    1. (before and after studying its history)?

  1. In what city is the building?
  2. Who is the architect?
    1. What was the architect’s first work?
  3. When did construction start and finish?
